8 Private Companies Gift ₹175 Crore Land To Bengaluru Namma Metro

Eight private companies in Bengaluru have generously donated 172,223 square feet of land to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) for its Bengaluru’s Namma Metro project. These companies include –

  1. Infosys
  2. Biocon
  3. RMZ Infotech
  4. Vikas Telecom Pvt Ltd
  5. Total Environment Building Systems
  6. Prestige Notting Hill Investments
  7. A Munireddy (owner of AMR Tech Park)
  8. Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF).

Through these land donations, the BMRCL has saved a substantial amount, estimated to be around Rs 175 crore. This saving is significant as it reduces the financial burden on the government body responsible for developing and managing the Metro in Bengaluru.

Underground Infrastructure By Companies

Infosys and Biocon are not just donating land; they are actively contributing to the Metro project by funding the construction of two separate Metro stations on Hosur Road.

Infosys is also constructing an air-conditioned foot-over bridge on its ‘leased’ land to connect its campus with the Konappana Agrahara Metro station.

Bosch, another prominent company in Bengaluru, is constructing an underground walkway from its Lakkasandra campus. This walkway will provide direct access to the Lakkasandra Underground Metro Station on the Pink Line of Namma Metro.

It’s designed to benefit over 12,000 employees at Bosch’s campus by offering a direct and safe route to the Metro, without the need to cross busy roads.

Speaking of Bosch, they currently employ about 12,000 people at their Lakkasandra campus. This large workforce underscores the importance of the Metro and the underground walkway in easing their daily commute.

IKEA, the Swedish furniture giant, has also launched a foot-over bridge at the Nagasandra metro station. This bridge directly connects the Metro station to the IKEA store in Bengaluru, enhancing customer convenience and safety.

QR Tickets In Bengaluru Namma Metro

Namma Metro has introduced an innovative QR group ticketing system to improve the travel experience. This system allows a group of up to six travelers to use one QR ticket, which can be scanned at the Metro gate.

The benefit of using mobile QR tickets for group travel includes a 5% discount on the fare and the convenience of avoiding long queues at ticket counters. This system also reflects BMRCL’s efforts to embrace technology for better customer service.

Collaboration of Corporate Sector & Authorities

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro project is witnessing collaborative efforts from various private firms, not only in terms of land donation but also in infrastructure development. This partnership between the corporate sector and public transport authorities is paving the way for improved urban mobility solutions in the city.
