Are these coincidences or a conspiracy of buying votes? The Karnataka police has seized nearly ₹8 crore cash from 3 different locations within the last 2 weeks.
Police in Harohalli, Ramanagara, seized nearly ₹2 crores being transported in a vehicle on Monday night in violation of election guidelines.
This is the 3rd similar incident in less than two weeks. The driver has been booked for violating the Election Commission’s poll code of conduct.
The police from Hebbagodi in Bengaluru Rural had seized ₹4.7 crore from two cash management vehicles, on April 7. The accused people had no relevant documents.
The cash is still in the police station, and officials from a private bank that the cash belongs to have approached the cash redressal committee to release it. The cash was meant to fill different ATM kiosks.
SJ Park police had also booked two men after seizing ₹1 crore On April 13. They were transporting the cash money in an autorickshaw. The latest incident occurred when an election flying squad flagged down the cash management vehicle at Gantakanadoddi check post at 7pm.
According to the Election Commission guidelines, the movement of cash management vehicles is allowed only until 6pm, and vehicles carrying more than ₹20 lakh must be accompanied by a gunman.
An officer revealed that all cash management vehicles should also have a QR code sticker on them. In the latest case, the driver violated all three norms and failed to produce satisfactory answers or documents.
The seizures of large amounts of cash being transported illegally during the election season have raised concerns about the possible use of black money to influence the outcome of the elections.
