5-Nations Hockey Tournament: Men Defeat France, Women Aim Olympics

The Hockey 5 Nations Tournament 2023 is taking place in Valencia, Spain from December 15th to 22nd. Both our Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams are participating. This tournament is crucial, especially for our women’s team, as it prepares them for the Olympic qualifier in January.

The teams are playing in a round-robin format, where each team competes against all others. Sadly, there’s no live streaming or telecast available.

The Indian men’s hockey team showcased their skills and determination in a thrilling match against France, concluding the 5-Nations tournament in Valencia. They emerged victorious with a score of 5-4. This match was crucial for the Indian team, especially after facing setbacks in their previous games against Spain, Belgium, and Germany.

France initially took the lead with a goal by Lucas Montecot. However, India quickly bounced back with a goal from Vivek Sagar Prasad. Then, Jugraj Singh and Captain Harmanpreet Singh each scored twice, showing great teamwork and strategy. France kept up the pressure with goals from Etienne Tynevez and Gaspard Baumgarten, but India managed to stay ahead.

The match saw a series of back-and-forth scoring, with both teams displaying exceptional talent and determination. In the end, Jugraj Singh’s goal in the last moments of the game sealed the victory for India. Although this was India’s only win in the tournament, it was a significant one, showing the team’s potential and fighting spirit.

The tournament also featured the Indian women’s hockey team, led by Captain Savita Punia. They are gearing up for the upcoming Olympic qualifier in Ranchi, an event that’s crucial for their journey to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
