3 Dead & Many Injured At Copenhagen Mall Shooting In Denmark

A 22 years old man opened fire in a shopping mall in Denmark. He killed & injured several people while carrying a sizable rifle. There was a similar case in Norway last week.

Three people have been killed and three others injured in a shooting at a shopping mall in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Such incidents are not usually seen in Denmark.

A 22-year-old man from Denmark has been arrested after the shooting. Police say that there is no evidence of any other person’s involvement in the incident.

Police Engaged In Investigation

A Copenhagen police officer said the motive for the shooting was not yet known. He said that the dead included a middle-aged man and two youths.

The place where the firing took place is located on the outskirts of the capital and is the biggest mall in the area. 

After the firing started, some people entered the shops to save themselves, while some came out panicking.

Police caught the accused in 11 minutes

The accused was arrested within 11 minutes after the police got information about the incident, the official said.

He described the accused as an “ethnic den”, which is usually used for white people. An eyewitness to the firing incident told local media,

“I was making the video. The accused has spoken to me and said that this rifle is not genuine. He was very proud to do it.”

Statements of The PM & Royal Palace

Reacting to the incident, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called it a brutal attack. He said that it is beyond comprehension, heartbreaking and meaningless. The usually safe capital changed in an instant.

At the same time, the Royal Palace said in a joint statement that the full details of this tragedy have not been revealed yet. Many people have lost their lives and many have been injured. It is time to unite.

Biggest Attack In Last 7 Years

This is the biggest attack in Denmark since February 2015. In 2015, a 22-year-old youth opened fire, killing two people and injuring five policemen. He was killed in the encounter.

Similar Attack In Norway, Last Week

Last week, a similar shooting incident took place in Denmark’s neighboring country Norway, in which two people were killed and more than 20 were injured.

The shooting incident in the capital Oslo came at a time when preparations were on to organize a rally in support of homosexuals in the city. Police have arrested one accused in this case and are trying to know the reason behind the crime.
