The total wealth of Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his spouse increased by 29.4% during their four years in the Rajya Sabha, including the purchase of an apartment in New Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.
As he submitted his affidavit to become a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat on Monday, the minister declared assets worth Rs 20.09 crore, which included two homes in Delhi (including the new flat) and a 1.5-acre agricultural plot in Shimla.
The BJP leader disclosed personal assets worth Rs 15.52 crore in his 2019 affidavit.
While Jaishankar’s main sources of income are his salary and rent, his wife Koyoko Somekawa Jaishankar, a consultant for the Delhi International Airport and the GMR Hyderabad International Airport, makes her money mostly from consulting fees. Additionally, his spouse owes Rs. 1.12 lakh in GST.
His other possessions, such as jewelry and deposits in foreign banks, including those in Singapore, Tokyo, and Washington, D.C., have also increased in value in addition to the immovable assets he has acquired. However, in 2023, his wife’s offshore deposits decreased from Rs 29.12 lakh to Rs 24.46 lakh. His spouse has money in banks in Tokyo and Washington, DC.
