26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships

Reliance Foundation’s athletes (Jyothi Yarraji, Amlan Borgohain, Jinson Johnson, Tejas Shirse & Rosy Meena Paulraj) won 14 medals, including 6 gold medals.

Reliance Foundation athletes showcased their exceptional skills and brought home a remarkable medal haul of 14 medals at the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Ranchi. 

Among these medals were six golds, four silvers, and four bronzes, highlighting their dominance in various events.

Jyothi Yarraji displayed her prowess in both the women’s 100m hurdles and women’s 200m, securing gold medals in both categories. 

Amlan Borgohain emerged victorious in the men’s 200m, while Jinson Johnson triumphed in the men’s 1500m event. 

Tejas Shirse showcased his talent in the men’s 110m hurdles, and Rosy Meena Paulraj soared to gold in the women’s pole vault.

The Reliance Foundation athletes continued to shine on the final day of the Championships, with Jyothi and Amlan impressively claiming gold in the women’s and men’s 200m events, respectively. 

James Hillier, Athletics Director of Reliance Foundation, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s overall performance, emphasizing the athletes’ qualification for the upcoming Asian Championships.

Jinson Johnson, the reigning Asian Games 1500m champion and a Reliance Foundation Scholarship athlete, continued his strong comeback by securing gold in the 1500m event. 

With a time of 3:44.43, he not only clinched victory but also secured his qualification for the Asian Championships.

The success story continued with Jyothi winning her second gold in the 200m event, setting a new personal best of 23.42s and meeting the qualification standard for the Asian Championships. 

Amlan also defended his title in the men’s 200m, with Animesh Kujur securing silver, ensuring a 1-2 finish for Reliance Foundation athletes.

Jyothi and Tejas Shirse both broke meet records in their respective events, further solidifying their exceptional performances in the championships. 

Jyothi shattered her own record in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.89s, while Tejas set a new record in the men’s 110m hurdles, surpassing the previous record set over a decade ago.

Reliance Foundation’s athletes displayed their versatility in different disciplines, with Rosy Meena Paulraj and Baranica Elangovan securing a double podium finish in the women’s pole vault event. 

Rosy claimed gold by clearing a height of 4m, while Baranica won bronze with a clearance of 3.60m.

The men’s 100m event also saw a double podium finish for Reliance Foundation, with K Elakkiyadasan and Dondapati Jayaram winning silver and bronze, respectively. 

Elakkiyadasan clocked 10.37s, while Jayaram recorded a time of 10.40s. Jayaram expressed his delight at winning bronze in the senior category after being the U20 champion.

Purnima Hembram, a seasoned athlete, secured silver in the women’s heptathlon event, adding to her impressive record of five medals in the heptathlon throughout her career. 

The championships concluded on a high note with Mohammed Afsal winning silver in the men’s 800m, achieving his season-best time of 1:47.66 and earning a spot at the Asian Championships.

The achievements of the Indian athletes at the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships reflect their remarkable skills, dedication, and determination. 

Their impressive performances and medal haul demonstrate the depth of talent and the promising future of athletics in India.
