15 Days of Bank Holidays in September 2024- What You Need to Know

Are you planning to go to the bank in September 2024? Then, wait watch this then plan accordingly for this September 2024, because many banks across India will be closed on several occasions including important holidays like Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, First Onam, and Milad-un-Nabi (Id-e-Milad). In total banks will remain shut for 15 days including the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays in this month.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides a list of bank holidays each month to help customers plan their banking activities. Here’s a breakdown of the key holidays when banks will be closed in September 2024:

1. September 4, Wednesday: Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva – Banks closed in Assam.

2. September 7, Saturday: Ganesh Chaturthi – Banks closed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa.

3. September 14, Saturday: Second Saturday, Karma Puja/First Onam – Banks closed nationwide.

4. September 16, Monday: Id-e-Milad – Banks closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

5. September 17, Tuesday: Indrajatra/Id-e-Milad (Milad-Un-Nabi) – Banks closed in Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.

6. September 18, Wednesday: Pang-Lhabsol – Banks closed in Sikkim.

7. September 20, Friday: Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi – Banks closed in Jammu and Srinagar.

8. September 21, Saturday: Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day – Banks closed in Kerala.

9. September 23, Monday: Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji – Banks closed in Jammu and Srinagar.

The RBI categorizes these holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. On these days, physical banking services will not be available, but customers can still use internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking for their financial and non-financial needs.
