100-200 people will be vaccinated each says centre ahead of vaccination drive

Vaccination Drive: As India moves towards its aim of carrying a vaccination drive, the central government has announced a few guidelines ahead of the process on Monday. The centre has included vaccinating 100-200 in each session every day where the healthcare experts will be monitoring them for 30 minutes.

To be sure, the healthcare officials will be administering these shots and examining the person and at a time they will only be allowing one beneficiary at a time. The government has also issued guidelines for the states to follow with regards to the covid-19 vaccination drive.

A Covid vaccine Intelligence Network (Co-WIN), a digitalised system will be used to track the enlisted beneficiaries for the vaccination purposes. It will be only these, the pre-registered beneficiaries, who will be vaccinated at the vaccination site. There is no scope of on-spot registration during the process, confirmed a news agency PTI.

To make it less confusing and to avoid mixing, the centre asked the states to allow vaccines from only one manufacturer. “As per the Covid-19 Vaccine Operational Guidelines, all measures should be taken to avoid exposing the vaccine carrier, vaccine vials or ice packs to direct sunlight,” asserted the document released by the centre and gathered by PTI.

Another major guideline for the states was that the vaccines and diluents should be kept inside the vaccine carrier where the lid must be closed till the beneficiary comes for taking the shot. This will not ensure hygiene but also provide a fixed number of doses and shots being provided.

Apart from that, states have also been asked to take a great deal of measures to ensure communication. They have integrated 360 degree comprehensive advocacy of communication and implement strategies such as social mobilisation. By this, it has kept up with the updates and whereabouts of the vaccination drive.

The centre has made it clear that it is a transitional period and even if there are some hiccups at the start, the challenges must be encountered. Initially the centre has planned units to cover up 100 beneficiaries per day but in case the session sites are well equipped with logistics and space and have an extra room for vaccinator officers, 200 beneficiaries can be catered in a single day.

The priority list has the healthcare workers at the top as they are ones who will be getting the vaccine at first followed by a person above 50 years of age. It will then be given to those less than 50 years of age with associated comorbidities and then it will be distributed among the rest of the population.

“The latest electoral roll for Lok Sabha and legislative assembly election will be used to identify the population aged 50 years or more,” a report in PTI said.
